In Slovakia, the concept of wellbeing is becoming established. Translations such as “quality of life”, “well-being”, “well-being”, “positive development” are not entirely the happiest, respectively, they do not cover the full breadth of meaning.
In wellbeing, it is about enthusiasm for one's work (not just for economic profit), the need to establish and maintain healthy relationships, and also captures the need for stability in one's own finances.
To this package of feelings, we must not forget to add the level and quality of our health — both mental and physical — both got busy during COVID. Last but not least, this includes a sense of harmony with the social environment in which we live.
Although the term wellbeing is unknown to many, its history goes back 80 years.
Based on long-term research 5 statistically significant factors have been identified. The positive news is that we can all influence to some extent. Let's take a look at them.
The mission of every person is (or at least should be) the creation of values. It doesn't matter whether in personal or professional life. The goal should be meaningful work with a certain goal.
Everyone needs money, but we perceive the feeling of financial stability differently. A stable economic situation in the family and at work completes the feeling of well-being.
Interpersonal relationships, whether in the workplace or in the family, are an extremely important part of wellness. The quality of relationships also has a proven impact on our health and overall well-being.
We will stay with the topic of health, because it forms an integral factor of wellness. Above all, the importance of mental health has grown during COVID. We should not forget about the physical — we can influence this with a good lifestyle and physical activity, or mental exercises.
Empathy and helping others fill us with satisfaction. Being involved in what is happening (in our city or at work) helps us to socialize more and achieve common (also social) goals.
These individual factors are interrelated and influence each other.
Let's take an example. If you have the flu with fevers, your health is affected. At the same time, this condition affects your financial comfort (less money from PN, expenses for treatment, etc.). Interpersonal relationships (especially in the workplace) are significantly limited at the time of illness. Your condition makes it impossible for you to make social contact and at the same time you cannot perform full-fledged work at work or at home.
According to a Gallup poll, Two-thirds of people are successful in at least one area. Only 7% of respondents said they were successful in all 5 factors.
We have already mentioned that the factors influence each other. If you start to do extremely well in one area, the other 4 factors also have an impact.
People with higher wellbeings are healthier, more productive, more stress-resistant, and better at coping with challenges. They are easier to deal with social crises (for example, the current pandemic). They cope faster with unexpected events, are more willing to help and contribute in different ways to the development of communities, organizations, and society.

Workplace well-being refers to all aspects of working life, from the quality and safety of the physical environment to how workers feel about their work. Workplace wellbeing measures aim to complement OSH measures to ensure that workers are safe, healthy, satisfied and engaged at work.
The well-being of workers is a key factor in determining the long-term effectiveness of an organization. Many studies point to a direct link between productivity levels and the overall health and well-being of the workforce. Businesses are increasingly recognizing the need to take the welfare of their workers seriously.
Leading Employers Realize Their Greatest Wealth Is the Workforce. Lack of recognition and promotion of worker well-being can lead to workplace problems such as stress, bullying, conflict, alcohol and drug use, and mental health disorders.
Solutions such as leadership, communication, and a focus on learning and development are essential for anyone committed to making the workplace a more dignified and satisfying place to work.
Many countries abroad are starting to incorporate this issue into legislation as well, and companies are adopting programmes to address specific health problems in the workplace as a complement to traditional OSH measures.
